We spruced up another basement bedroom in order to make it a cozy and welcoming place for my daughters, instead of a space to fear.  Can anyone else relate to this fear of the basement?  My grandmothers definitely had the boogie man lurking in every corner.

Any way . . . before I reveal all that we’ve done so far, I wanted to share a couple quick and fun projects I made to bring this space together.  First up, this DIY embroidery hoop wreath.

Go ahead and watch this quick video to see how I made it, and then I’ll show you in images for those who prefer that method.

WHY MAKE AN EMBROIDERY HOOP WREATH

Like I shared in the video, embroidery hoop wreaths are very popular right now because they are so inexpensive and easy to make and customize.  Depending on the florals and trim you use, you can achieve an entirely different look for each wreath.

I got the itch to make one when I found these wood-like floral stems at Hobby Lobby.  They are made of foam, but have wood tones which I thought pared nicely with the wood tones on the embroidery hoop.

SUPPLIES FOR AN EMBROIDERY HOOP WREATH

You will need floral stems, a hoop and something to secure the stems onto the wreath.  Here is what I got:

  • Embroider Hoop
    • Any size you desire!  I also found a pretty rope wreath form and wanted to give that a try as well.  The process for securing is the same.
  • Floral Stems
    • I’ve seen pretty embroidery hoop wreaths with just boxwood clippings and other simple greenery, but the sky is the limit here!  Keep it plain and simple, or go all out.  Get enough to cover the whole wreath or just a section if that is the desired look.
  • Wiring or Cording
    • You can certainly use floral/craft wire to secure your stems, but I opted to use some waxed cording because it matched the tones in the florals and hoops so well.
  • Glue gun and glue
  • Scissors or wire cutters if needed

STEPS FOR MAKING AN EMBROIDERY HOOP WREATH

First play around with the florals and wreath to get a general idea of where and how you would like to place the florals.

Begin securing the pieces that will be layered under all the others.  Tie and/or glue in place.

Trim away the extra stem.

Working layer by layer, glue and tie the florals in place.

A lot of embroidery hoop wreaths only add florals to about 1/3 or the hoop, and either center the florals at the bottom or off to the side.

I ended up covering about half of the hoop and tilting it to it’s side as it hung on the makeshift canopy of my daughters bed.

I can’t wait to show you more projects we’ve worked on for this space!  I’m trying to jump far out of my comfort zone and do more video for my tutorials, as I find they are very helpful for explaining my methods better.  I’d love your help in growing my YouTube channel!  If you enjoy that space online, I’d love to have you follow along with me there.

Thank you all so very much for visiting my blog today!  I couldn’t do any of this without the encouragement of my wonderful readers!
